Movies, Marathons, and Must-See TV

This is a few days belated, but Happy New Year, everyone! I rang in 2011 while hunched over my keyboard finishing my sixth Night Huntress novel with Cat and Bones. Not the most party animal way to celebrate, but oh, was I glad an hour later when the book was done. For me, writing a book is like participating in a literary marathon. There are times when you hit your stride and everything clicks, times when you get a cramp (or look at your computer with the ominous thought of “NOW what?”), and times when you may even feel like you’re not going to make it. So when that finish line comes into sight, even though you might be exhausted and sore, a burst of adrenaline makes you sprint those last few legs (or chapters) of the journey. Then you get to throw your hands in the air and yell, “I did it!” (or type my two favorite words in the world, The End).

And then, of course, you usually fall down. Passing out is optional :).

Now that I’m past the unconscious stage of finishing a book, heh, I’m looking forward to recharging my batteries. Next week I’ll start writing the story for an upcoming holiday anthology - bringing me to the two words in the world that scare me the most: Chapter One – but this week, I’m on my couch reading and watching TV. The series “V” starts back up tonight and I’m looking forward to that. "The Cape" looks intriguing so I'll probably check that out, too. “Season on the Witch” comes out in theaters on Friday and I haven’t been to a movie in ages, so hubby and I are going to see it. For books, I’ve had Karen Essex’s DRACULA IN LOVE on the top of my To Be Read pile for a while, and after that I’ll be cracking open THE LOST CITY OF Z by David Grann.

What about you? What books/movies/TV shows are you looking forward to this month? And who else, like me, stepped on a scale Sunday morning, screamed out loud, and immediately started their diet again? *wink*

Hooray! Another Cat and Bones is coming my way.

I'm working on Lara Adrian's Breed Series and watching action movies with the hubby. I totally recommend Machete if you like faux B movies and the Expendables if you just want to watch things go boom.

I had the flu over Christmas, so I think this is the first year I didn't fall into a dead faint after my New Year's weigh in.

I am looking forward to spending time with my husband since he just got home from a year deployment. I have been reading your books once again and just finished book 4 for the 3rd time. I just love your books. I too want to go and see "Season on the Witch" and since my hubby is home we need to go and see Harry Potter, the one movie that we always see together. And since my hubby is home I am going to go through some of his books to see if there is something to read that he had with him before I go and buy some more for me. lol! As for t.v I DVRed True Blood season 3 for the hubby so we started watching that together. As for the other stuff on tv I am really not that much into it...my head is always in a book or my nook!
Congrats on finishing book 6th of Cat and Bones! Looking forward for book 5 next month! Hope you have a wonderful start to the New Year!

Thanks for the good wishes, Lindsey. Sara, I had a cold the last week of December, yet still managed to gain weight, heh. And I liked Machete! Total B movie campyness, but I laughed all through it. Anonymous, so glad your husband is home safe! Enjoy watching True Blood together. I can't wait for the next season already.

Yay for finishing another book! I love that feeling of accomplishment when you get to write The End. Right before you go back and start looking for all the mistakes made while writing it. At least, that's what happens to me.

I am excited because last quarter I took 20 credits and thus only had time for doing the reading assigned for class (although it was fun since I had a YA Lit class and a Children's Lit class). Now I am down to a much better number of credits at 15 and I plan to spend a lot of time reading for fun again.

I got Haunted By Your Touch for Christmas so that is high on my list of books to read. Also Catching Fire (I devoured the Hunger Games), Coffeehouse Angel, Tantalize, and Blood Bound. There are way more on my shelf right now, but that seems like a good start for January.

And I love that TV is coming back on again. Looking forward to more of Chase, Hellcats, and the newest season of Greek. Plus I just split the cost of a Netflix subscription with my roommate so I plan to use that Instant Watch A LOT.

Well, since this is the last week of my 3 week Winter Break (I'm in between semesters at Grad School), I'm preparing to go back to classes next week. I watched all of True Blood Season 3 when it replayed on HBO last week, and I'd watching the first season of Leverage on DVD. I'm reading Kelley Armstrong's Living with the Dead right now, but I think it will be the last "fun" book I get to read until the summer. I am also trying to work on my fiction writing in addition to writing academic papers, teaching two composition classes, and just being busy with life. I don't know how you wrote your first book (well, the first two, since you had to break it up) while working full time.

Can't wait for the newest books! Love em :) Enjoy your time off!

Well, I go back to college on next week, so I probably won't have much time for reading.... Ha, okay, I SHOULDN'T have much time for reading, but I'll make some. ;) I've got TONS of books to read, all from series I need to catch up on! Shift and Alpha from Rachel Vincent, I'm dreadfully behind on the Midnight Breed series, then of course I'm dying to reread some of the Black Dagger Brotherhood because I just love those books. XD

TV wise, I don't watch too much of it - and it's even less since at the dorms I don't have a TV, though my friend does. But I AM looking forward to Royal Pains and Fairly Legal looks interesting so I'll check that out - it helps that they're on back to back, on Thursdays, lol, because I don't have a morning class on Fridays!

But right now all I'm excited about is I get to see my friend America (no, really, that's her name!!!) from school again on Saturday! She lives in LA, I live in little Lodi, CA, and I haven't seen her in a month! I'm going crazy without her! LOLOL!

Oh, and I'm kind of looking forward to my Aikido class for school. XD

Congrats on finishing your book!! And I guess always congrats on having the courage to get on the scale, I've been steadfastly avoiding my scale.

I can't wait for Vampire Diaries and Supernatural to come back. My other fave show Psych just ended its season, so now I have to wait til summer for it to start up again!

I can't wait to see Season of the Witch. I love Nicholas Cage. I also await the return of Supernatural. The list of books I am waiting for...let's just say it is long.

I don't step on scales .

Jeaniene, congratulations on finishing Cat & Bones #6! Now comes the long wait till we have it in our hot little hands!
Let's see, movies I'm looking forward to? The last Harry Potter, for one. It will be so sweet watching Voldy finally get what's coming to him! As for TV shows, I can't wait to see the third series of Being Human. Gotta see how they rescue Annie! I'll probably watch the American version starting on SyFy in another couple of weeks, but I don't see how it could possibly hold a candle to the original. I just love that Mitchell!
As usual, there are too many books I'm looking forward to reading to list them all here, but in addition to This Side of the Grave, I'm looking forward to new books from Kerrelyn Sparks, Nicole Peeler, Lynn Viehl, Emma Holly, Chelsea Quinn Yarbro, Chloe Neill, Charlaine Harris, J.R. Ward, Lara Adrian, Christine Feehan, Lynsay Sands, D.B. Reynolds, Adrian Phoenix, etc. etc. Have I mentioned that I'm a bit obsessed with vampires? Just a little!

Congrats on finishing the book! I am sure you are excited to get some much needed down time. I am actually planning on going to see Season of the Witch this weekend too. I was thinking about seeing the Red Riding Hood one when it comes out too, but I have not decided yet. I did see Tangled though and that was really cute.

As for books, well, your next one comes out in February so duh to that one. I am also looking forward to Darkest Mercy by Melissa Marr and her new adult one Graveminder. I am also eager for Kresley Cole's next one and Nalini Singh's Kiss of Snow. So many great books to look forward too :)

Well, hope you have fun relaxing and excited to see more Cat and Bones :)

TV shows this month would be American Idol. I am interested how the new panel of judges is going to work out with Simon gone.

Books would have to be the final Monning book, your book and JR wards. :)

Happy 2011!

Coming from someone who reads and checks your blog everyday...it's so exciting when I get to your page and read "I'm done with book #..." I SO look forward to reading anything you write! Enjoy reading/watching tv/ and seeing movies for a few weeks! Down time is always good. Right now i'm really into The Black Dagger Brotherhood books by JR Ward. They are pretty good! I'm enjoying them so far (they dont do what your books do to me, but they are still enjoyable!) My husband and I just saw True Grit last night. I REALLY enjoyed it. It was a great movie! I would recommend it. (If you like western type movies) As for TV...I love Bones and The Big Bang Theory. If you want something that makes you think Bones is good...and The Big Bang Theory is a crack up!! Happy New Year Jeaniene!! I hope 2011 is a great success for you! (And Cat and Bones :))

Thanks for the congrats, everyone! Sounds like there's a lot of good TV/books waiting to be explored :). Re-the question of whether I'm going to be overseas any time soon. Not to my knowledge. My publisher is tentatively planning to send me to a few cities for THIS SIDE OF THE GRAVE's release, but those are U.S. cities (more dates and details once I have them).

Happy New Year and congrats on the new arrival. Yerp my scales groaned at me too so time to reduce....again. Just read Gail Carriger's Soulless and really enjoyed this Steampunk novel. I'm re-reading The Far Pavillions M M Kaye. For TV from Amazon UK: North & South BBC version of Gaskell's novel really good, Being Human, Sherlock new series set in modern times. CS Lewis' the Voyage of the Dawn Treader is a lot of old fashioned fun at the cinema. Season of the Witch looks really good as does Nick with long hair. Come to Ottawa soon :)
Fare thee well.
