A Life-Changing Event...or Not

And the winner is--drum roll--- BJ!!!! Congratulations! Please contact me at kerrelyn@earthlink.net to give me a mailing address. My thanks to everyone for stopping by!

To my lovely and brilliant Love at Stake readers (and if you're not one-- hello? Give me a try!):
You deserve a big hug and many thanks from me. The latest book in the series, Eat Prey Love, is now enjoying its third week on the Borders Romance, USAToday, and New York Times bestseller lists. Hitting the lists is considered a big deal in the publishing world, and it makes my publisher very happy, which in turn makes me very happy (and relieved). But as I struggle to begin a new book, I'm left wondering if anything in my life has actually changed. So here is my list of ten things that SHOULD happen when an author's book becomes a bestseller--
  1. I would lose twenty pounds overnight. (Hmm, make that thirty).
  2. Writing would become easy and effortless.
  3. Time would supernaturally stretch for me so that I would always have plenty of time to finish books by deadline.
  4. My house would become magically self-cleaning.
  5. The publisher would send me a secretary to type my books for me while I dictate them and eat bonbons.
  6. I would never gain a pound from eating those bonbons. Just exercising my brain would burn off 500 calories an hour.
  7. The weeds in the flowerbeds would all die. And never come back.
  8. Chef Gordon Ramsey would send a top Master Chef over every night to cook supper.
  9. Chef Gordon Ramsey would wash the dishes.
  10. The Love at Stake series would be made into a television show like Glee with singing and dancing vampires and shape shifters.
Twirling vampire capes and tap-dancing werewolves? Well, maybe it's for the best that my list didn't come true. If you could wish for something, what would it be? If you're wishing for a signed copy of Eat Prey Love, this could be your lucky day! One of the commenters will be chosen at random to win. Good luck!

Huge congrats on your bestseller list run, Kerrelyn!

As for the other list, I love it! Especially the tap-dancing werewolves. The top of my wishlist is someone to cook dinner at night. A master chef would be fabulous, but at this point I'd just be happy with someone who isn't me. I keep trying to talk my husband into giving it a try, but he keeps coming home with take-out.

Congratulations on your success! You completely deserve it based soley on the idea of turning hot Highlanders into vamps.
I would wish for the self-cleaning house or a hot manservant to clean up. I'm not really picky.

Nicole said...

Congrats Kerrelyn!! Super exciting news. Um, I'll take part of your wishlist ;). But in all seriousness, a wish for me would be that business for me picks up. It's that time of year in my profession, though. *sigh*. Congrats again :).

LOL! Can you imagine how popular a show with dancing man candy would be?! Congrats on the success. And great list.

Having your house magically self-clean would be amazing...love it, love it! I would also love to have extra hours in days when I am running short of time so I could get everything done and maybe a few hours for just ME to read and just enjoy.

Congratulations on 'Eat Prey Love'!

Congratulation on the bestseller lists! Your books are amazing, so I'm glad to hear they're getting the recognition they deserve! You're list made me laugh this morning and I definitely needed it. As for my wish, I wish I wasn't stuck in limbo. I wish spending years in school it would pay off and I could start my life. Unfortunately, times right now are worse than losing your fang. I guess if I'm really wishing for something it would be that the unemployment rate would decrease.

JenM said...

Congrats! A self-cleaning house would be nice but what I really want is to get rid of my allergies so that I could have a pet. I'm allergic to both cats and dogs which is a real hassle.

Anonymous said...

Oh my word, that is an awesome list! I'd have to go with the one where the house magically cleans. . . but I'd add --- And the ironing is magically done as well!

I hate ironing.

Anyway, congrats on the lists you've made. That's totally exciting. Enjoy the journey!

Crystal @ RBtWBC said...

Congrats! I am still dying to read Eat Prey Love.
I think seeing Chef Gordon Ramsey washing dishes would be hilarious! But I would like to grab some items off your list, self cleaning house for one, and a chef, and then a diaper genie - like a real genie to just poof dirty diapers away, and a few extra hours in the day so I can sleep longer! 5-6 hrs is just not cutting it. *yawn*

Lori V said...

Love the top ten! But can't imagine Roman and the rest dancing and singing :) Thanks for the great stories!

Marianne Strnad said...

I LOVE your list Kerrelyn! You need to add that Gordon Ramsey would actually be PLEASANT about it too! Congrats on your success!

Kristen Gough said...

I love your list and I would definitely wish for a house that magically cleans itself. Especially since I have three young children, otherwise known as my little mess makers, that I clean up after every day. I love your books and look forward to many more of them!

Congrats! I love your books!!! I wish I am a bewitch lady to clear up the dirty dishes out of the sink without washing them with my hands. :) Good luck!

I would wish for something that does all domestic duties. I don't care who or what that something is, so long as I don't have to do it.

KhelseyJackson said...

I would wish that there was no time! There was more time during the day and we didn't age. No such thing as diseases and everyone was happy! Oh and of course singing and dancing vampires and shape shifters.

Congrats on your success...as a HUGE fan I had no doubt! Your books as well as all the other fabulous authors out there are what keep me sane! Not that I don't love my family but sometimes you need a little me time and that is what I get when I escape and read!

As a full time working mom with a husband who also works and hunts full time and two very busy daughters (ages 6 & 12) my life is insanely crazy! Monday - Friday nights are filled with Soccer (year round because outdoor isn't enough), Dance and Drill Team Practice and then add in the soccer games and drill team performances. Not to mention homework and other school activities.

With my life my wish list would include housekeeper to clean and cook and possibly a day to sleep in. I really am not picky!:-)

Thank you! Maria Smith

I absoutly love your writing. It's has not only made me love reading, insprired me to write 2 of my own books, not to mention my Fiance loves you too. When we were dating, I was reading these and he wanted to share that experience, so I like to think it brought us closer. And, now we are engaged. Honestly I have not read this book just yet, it seems I have tons on my bookshelf to read. lol. I am full time working and going to school, and 3 kids. So, my reading time now a days are limited, BUT i would love a copy signed by you. I would actually cry probably. LOL If anything, I support you 101%. Good luck on future books. Just a suggestions: I would love to read a fallen angel book from you. Curious to see how you would write it. ♥ love u

hi, congratulation on your success.
i heart you books so much. even on a hectic day, i'd still try to find time to read them.

btw, i love you list. i also wish that just exercising my brain would burn off 500 calories an hour..LOL. i dont like stressing my brain. that'll make me become so lazy to think.

actually, i'm not good at saying what i want. its hard for me to let people know how i feel. i love how you portrayed the characters in the books. i feel inspired from them.

i wish you all best in life..and i'm looking forward to read the next book..;)

I wish time wouldn't pass when reading, so I could just read a whole book and when I'd finished it, it would be just the same time as I started. That way I maybe could get through reading every book on my wishlist one day.

I like the idea of a series but not a singing and dancing one....that's sooooo not Conor. LOL

I would Love a Love at Stake Series.....I would Watch it in a heart beat!
As for what I'd like other than a signed book, a series, a million or two bucks, hmmmm all my Christmas cards to magically get done....man that would be sweet!
Congrats on being on all the lists...With Conor's We're Shooting for #1 :0)

Congrats on making the best seller list.

I like the self cleaning house idea but I think I'd wish for dishes that self wash and put themselves away.

I'm not so sure about the singing and dancing vampires and shape shifters but I am for a tv show.. I'm all for the lose twenty pounds overnight thing, do you think I can make it my wish too? :)

Thanks for all the cool comments! I'll always remember a Star Trek TNG episode where a pretty young lady was being transported from one place to another on the Enterprise and she tried to clean up, and Riker told her--No need to do that. The ship is self-cleaning.

I nearly fell out of my chair! A place that is self-cleaning!?! Sheesh, that's even cooler than a warp engine!

I have only just started reading this series but absolutely love it! I am so glad that I found your books.

My wish would be to have enough time to read all my books without interruption. Life with a full time job, husband, and two kids (ages 6 and 10) does not leave much time for me to just read by myself.

Congratulations on Eat Prey Love! I cannot wait to read it.

My first wish, of course, is my own copy of Eat Prey Love. Other than that, I'm totally in agreement with your list except that I'm not a writer. But the writing-specific items could be modified to fit my life, so I'm happy to borrow yours.
Congrats on the best-seller list but I'm not at all surprised! Looking forward to the next books!

Great list and congrats on the best seller lists! There are many things things on your list that I would love to happen. If I could only pick one then it would be #3 - Supernaturally stretching time.

If I had more time, I would have the time to work, cook, clean and still have time left over to play with my son and husband. I could fit it all in and not be stressed out.

Aha! I love your wishlist! I think those things would be well-deserved.

My own wishlist is so long, how could I choose one. I wish I could win the lottery! Then I could buy all the books I could ever read and go on vacations to lounge around and read them all and have a house with adequate shelving and a kitchen designed by someone who cooks.

Can I have Jean-Luc as a neighbor, mine are really noisy? If I can't wish for that then someone to clean the kitty litter would work. I love your books, I was re-reading them in prep for Eat Prey Love, when I named my new kitten Duncan (seemed appropriately highlanderish).

Have you ever seen the movie Alex and Emma? It's a very cute movie about a man who has to write a book in a month but he has writers block and tricks a secretary into writing it for him while he dictates it to her. I adore that movie and #5 reminded me of it (though he doesn't eat bonbons XP).

Congrats on your books success, it's well deserved for all the hours spent creating this other world we go to as we read. Congrats "Eat Love Prey" is a great book. As far was wishes that come true I would also like to see your books become a tv series although I'm not sure about seeing the Vamps dancing and singsing - just can't picture some of them like Roman, Angus, and Connor doing that. However if I could have any wish come true it would be that I could meet someone like one of your Vamps.

At the top of my wish list would be to have all my favorite authors write faster (and you are definitely one of my favorites). I always slow down my reading when I'm coming to end of a book because I hate for it to be over, and I know that it'll be awhile before the next book comes out. So sad that this wish won't come true either.

Another Hit...

Reviewer: David S. Oct 27, 2010
I have become a strong fan of the books written by Ms. Sparks. They are mysteries, love stories, fantasy, and absorbing. The characters are believable to the point you feel like you could meet any one of them as you walk through anytown USA. Each story features a character you may have met in an earlier story, but you don't have to read these in order of writing. If you enjoy as much as I have, you won't want to miss any of these stories. GREAT READING (and FUN too).
