New Year Resolutions

It’s been a quiet start to 2011 and I have to admit that I’m enjoying it. The final book to the Dark Days Series (Burn the Night) has been copyedited and now I am just waiting for a final edit. I’ve got some books on proposal with my editor at the moment and I’m waiting to receive a book to blurb. All in all, I’m playing the waiting game, which I’ve come to understand is a big part of the publishing world. In the meantime, I’m working on a new book at my own pace with no deadlines looming over my head, which brings back feelings of the old days when I wasn’t published and I was just writing for the sake of writing with no expectations.

But as the new year starts, I feel that I should put down a few resolutions that I should work toward to make myself a better person and a better writer.

1. Write 2.5 books this year. My goal is to complete at least two and a half books in 2011. I’ve done something similar in the past, but it was something of a rushed mess. This time, I plan to organize my time accordingly so that I not only accomplish my goal, but also write superior books.

2. Kick the caffeine habit. Caffeine, no matter how wonderful, is bad for your heart. Considering that my family has a long history of heart problems, I’ve decided that for my health, I am going to avoid all forms of caffeine as much as humanly possibly. Yes, that means giving up wonderfully warm cups of coffee with the caffeine jolt and delicious chocolate.

3. Lose weight. Doesn’t everyone put this on their list on occasion. Well, too many hours of sitting behind the computer has not made me a very healthy person. It’s time to spend a little more at the gym and a little less time eating this quick-and-easy junk food snacks.

I’m sure I’ll think of other goals for the year, but these are the top three for me. What goals or resolutions do you have for the year?

Well, hopefully the cutting out of caffeine with also help with the weight loss. Remember it takes 30 days to make a habit and 100 days to make it a permanent life style change (talking exercising and eating habit) so stick with it!

My goal is to earn my 2nd degree black belt this month. Also when the ATA (american taekwondo assoc) tournament year ends in June, I hope to be the NC state champion (women's 1st degree 40-50 year old division) in sparring, forms and weapons. Not as impressive as it sounds since there aren't very many of us , but I am damn good at it .

I wrote four novels last year and I'd like to do that again. Though, that would change if the one currently on sub with agents gets picked up.

Other than that, I want to work my way through half of my TBR pile and lose weight. Pretty standard resolutions.

Good luck with your resolutions/goals. I don't like to make resolutions because I usually don't succeed with them. I do like to make goals. This year I would like to try and go back to school. I really need to finish my degree and I need to stop putting it off.

The weight is one I just have to do this year. At 50 I'm past needing to do it to look better-- I really need to be healthy. As far as writing-- I completed Nano, and I sold one short story in 2010. I also sold ten nonfiction articles, so I want to do more of each in 2011.

I've never been one for resolutions, mostly because I forget the exist until someone mentions them as New Years approaches. This year was no different. I did, however, make a promise to myself. I promised I'd get my book published. (or at least get closer to it, I've been reading a lot of authors blogs and the reality of being published is it takes a loooong time.)

If I did make a resolution, I'd stick with the get healthy one. I do need to get in shape, make it so I'm not puffing and huffing so easily.
