Happy Halloween!

(who vows to help Sophie break into Blogger before her post next month)

*** Contest is over and the winner is: Jolene Alcock and Family ***

Oooh, Scary
How many of you are like me right now? Full of excitement and awe during this time of year? I don’t think there is any better time to be an avid paranormal writer/reader/film goer!

This is the time of year when it’s expected to let ourselves wander strange and creepy paths. Not only can we dress up as our favorite paranormal creature (cough … dragon), we can put tombstones in our yards, get our fill of creepy movies, listen to spooky music on the radio, and wear t-shirts with skulls on the front and not get a funny look! Right now I have two ghosts hanging from trees in front of my house, casting eerie shadows through the stained glass of my front door. LOVE!

I can promise the weekend will not pass without at least three horror movies. As far as reading goes, several books wait on my bedside table to satisfy my Halloween spirit. Vampire novels mostly, maybe even a zombie book or two.

The Prize
So what about you? What are your Halloween plans? And what do you think is the best paranormal creature to dress up as? I’m still all for the dragon. Just plop on a red wig, a pair of wings, play with your make-up and wamo! You have Jacinda!

In the spirit of Halloween, here’s a TREAT:

One commenter will win a signed copy of my paranormal YA debut, FIRELIGHT. Be sure to check back and see if you’ve won.

Again, Happy Halloween!
All best,
Sophie Jordan

I don't have many plans for Halloween. I am going to sit down and watch the Packer game. That may be a horror show for all Packer fans.

I think the paranormal creature to dress up as a zombie. It is you only paler, deader and moanier.

Thanks!

My Halloween plans this year include a festival with my niece and a Halloween party with friends.

I had a halloween party last night, no one dressed up, but there were scavenger hunts, a hay ride and candy!

The awesome sheet ghost is the best costume, it's cheap and quick to put together.

I'm tempted to say..dragongirl :D

The Phantom, maybe.
You can either go the all-out elaborate Phantom-of-the-Opera style or something that won't make you stand out, cos the phantom's supposed to be un-noticeable.

Also, I'm waiting for the candies.

Can't wait to read this book! Dragons Rock!

Oh, how I love Halloween! We are carving pumpkins tonight and tomorrow will be making chili and having friends over for trick-or-treating. Oh, and wine.

I would love to be dressing up as a fairy (not a nice one!) but I'm going to be a good mom and surprise my son with Supergirl. He's three, so it's worth it to dress in a cape and blond wig.

But next year - maybe, just maybe I can steer him away from the superheroes and talk him into being a dragon!

Not sure what I'm doing for halloween... But I may go trick or treating, if I can ditch up a last minute costume :) Went on a hay ride last night, it was kinda lame but I was scared anyway (I'm really lame haha)

No real plans this Halloween, probably doing my homework, and giving out candy to the kids.

I have to go with faries as the best paranormal creature. They always look cute, and an easy costume to get!

Sadly there's not really a way to celebrate Halloween over here in Germany - at least not for adults ;) It's coming though :)

My favorite costume has always been a witch. It's easy to realize and possibilities are endless (in case you wonder, as I said before we don't have Halloween over here but Fasching, which is a similar event held in Feburary).
I just read I am Number Four and now I want to go on a hayride as well :P

Where I live, people don't usually dress up during Halloween, only kids do, but still not all. So if it were for me, I would love to dress up as a devil, just because I want to want to experience looking truly "devilish". I know it's kind of "messed up" but I think it would be really fun!:)

My plans are the usual, take the kids trick or treating, except this time I will have my husband for help. YAY!! He only has sunday's off and usually get's home between 7 or 8pm. I was super excited Halloween falls on Sunday this year. I think Vampires are big this year, so I'm expecting so lots of those out and about. Two of my three kids are going as Vampires thanks to mommy's obsession with Twilight, True Blood and the Vampire Diaries :)

Flying solo this Halloween. Poor hubby is on shift at the Fire station. I found this adorable butterfly costume and spiced it up with a frilly petti-coat, glitter, and lots of eye makeup. Surprisingly enough, I couldnt find butterfly face themed designs. Looked everywhere... for perhaps a glitter applique or something fun. This is our thrid year for trick-or-treaters which is my favorite part! We have sooo many children in our neighborhood!

I like watching Halloween movies, which are generally not horror movies.

Honestly, my favourite thing about Halloween is its proximity to Christmas. I love Christmas.

I love Halloween! still not sure what my plans are...probably just dressing up and watching scary movies while handing out candy.
Hope i win!

My all time favorite time of the year is Fall. It's like all the fantasy parts of the year start with Halloween and keep going right up until Mardi Gras for folks here in the deep south! I'm definitely channeling Jacinda...on the hunt for that elusive red wig because I want a real one!!! Happy Trick or Treating...

I plan to take my boys trick or treating. I don't really dress up but I like to see all the cool costumes and decorations around the neighborhood.

I love, love, love Halloween! My yard is decked out with gravestones, ghosts, skeletons, and creepy sound making skulls. I think that all costumes are great but I have to say that one of my favorites is ZOMBIES. For Halloween I'm hanging out with some friends, watching scary movies, carving pumpkins, and maybe even visiting a few haunted houses. As you can see from my profile pic I've been working on making zombie flesh :-) I've heard awesome things about your book and I would love to win a copy! :-D

I love Halloween! My favorite way to celebrate is with a classic horror movie marathon! Anything starring Vincent Price or Christoper Lee-with an occasional twilight zone thrown in. It's my evening with Vincent Price. I LOVE it!

I love dressing up as a witch, something to do with the hat. This year I will be in my Halloween pajamas because we aren't going out.

My Halloween plans are to hang out, read some great vampire stories and watch some scary movies. I think the best paranormal creature to dress up as is a ghost - throw a sheet over your head and you're good to go, LOL.

My Halloween plans are to dress up as a hippie and go around getting candy. xD Though if I were to dress up as a paranormal creature I don't know what I would dress up as. I LOVE the Jacinda idea, Vampires are all over the place, hmm... it's tough...

Crystal @ RBtWBC said...

Oh, I've been wanting to read this book!

Our plans this weekend are to take the kids to Sea World's Spooktacular in a bit and then trick-or-treating tomorrow night.
And the best paranormal creature to dress up as? I'm leaning towards zombie right now but that is very likely to change, there's so many great ones to choose from!

Happy Halloween everyone and have a great weekend!

Halloween is not so big here, possibly because the Southern Hemisphere is coming into summer and it doesn't get dark until about 9-10 pm, but we'll still get the little kids out trick-or-treating.

nymfaux said...

@Katie GO PACK!!!!

LOVE the Jacinda costume idea!!! I would love to dress up and go trick-or-treating like I used to, and one of my friends is having a party, but is 5 hours away, so I think I'm aiming for a scary movie/book marathon instead.

I LOVE LOVE LOVED Firelight!!!!! And I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to win a signed copy!!!!

Halloween is THE best holiday! I love it! A dragon or a wolf would be great! Hmmm, I'll have to start plotting considering it's tomorrow! Ah! Thanks for the treat! *fingers crossed!*

I'm not a big fan of Halloween so I won't be doing anything special.I may watch a horror movie or two.
I'd say the best paranormal creature to dress up as is a witch.I've seen a lot of version of it over the years. people can be really creative.

Well in a little while I will be putting the finishing touches on my teenage daughter's costume, Alice in Wonderland...but wait...as a zombie! She will be with her girl friends and I will be chaperoning or sitting at home with my hubby watching a scary movie. The Walking Dead is airing on AMC tomorrow...zombies! :)

I don't have any halloween plans, will just be at home watching movies and doing homework.

I'm with everyone else who doesn't have halloween plans. lol, we suck. >.>
As for a costume, I've always loved witch costumes. Dunno why, but they are so fun. Maybe it's getting to carry a broom stick around all day and WAP! Oops sorry, didn't mean to hit you, it was an accident (I swear!) ;)

Last night we had our teen party--my boys are 16 and 17. My nephew was here and did a few kids up in zombie make-up, and quite a few others were dressed up. One kid was a rubik's cube. LOL They had a bonfire and consumed brownies, nachos, pop and hot chocolate. It was a lot of fun. Tonight is movies and cards with my inlaws. Tomorrow is trick or treating. We'll take out my ten year old. She want's to be a Corpse Bride or zombie princess. LOL I think zombie's are the coolest creature for Halloween:)

I don't have plans for Halloween unfortunately. Oh well.

Does eating the candy I'm supposed to hand out count as fun? ;)

Would love to win! My plans are to hand out the candy...someone has too, right? lol I love the Halloween season, gives us all an excuse to be a kid again!

I love Halloween, there is nothing like the pure joy in a child's eyes as they say trick or treat and being dressed as their favorite character. So tomorrow I will be handing out candy and greeting all of the little hobgobblins.

It's always been a vampire for me. Not the new sparkling kind but the old fashioned blood dripping down your face kind.

i have no plans ! But i would really like to win and read this book ! please Pick ME :)

Zombie costume is the easiest and cheapest to dress up, i think *grin*

I love Halloween! I am not dressing up, but I will be dressing up my dogs in costume. They have a bug theme - ladybug, bee, butterfly. Maybe if I walk them around the neighborhood people will give me candy?

Why the same thing I do everyday Pinky. Try to take over the world.

*Narf!*

No, not really, those plans are put on hold for a while while I concentrate on catching up on late reviews. Do I know how to party or what.

I am so in love with the cover to that book... and don't laugh, but when I first glanced at that zombie hand picture I thought it was a cat hanging up on a fence. lol. Man I need to hurry up and get my glasses.

We don´t actually celebrate Halloween in Germany. But it´s somehow like the German "Karneval", I guess. I always wanted to dress up as a princess, but it never really turned out like that.
I always ended up as a witch, or a vampire ;-)

This year I decided to have a whole Halloween-themed weekend, going to the musical Dance of the Vampires, watching horror-films with a couple of friends and reading or re-reading something halloween-like^^
When it comes to dressing up I tend to go for the vampire-outfit with lots of black and some spooky make-up.

I did my Halloween last night. It was a lovely party. I went as the Queen of Hearts. My hubby went as Hunter S Thompson from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. I didn't even think of dragon. That probably is the best paranormal costume! Great treat!!
