ORIGINAL POST:
Summer is in full swing and it’s the perfect time to curl up in a lounge chair with a great book. So, we wanted to let you know about some of our new releases—fun stuff from authors Amanda Arista, Karina Cooper, Leah Cypess, Merrie Destefano, Jocelynn Drake and Nicole Murphy. Covers and descriptions of their newest books are below.

However, on top of that, all of us here at the Supernatural Underground wanted to say thank you for being such loyal blog followers. We really appreciate you! So, after you read through some of the amazing new books that HarperCollins published in the last month or so, check out our amazing SUPERNATURAL GIVEAWAY at the end of this blog post.

NEW RELEASES:

DIARIES OF AN URBAN PANTHER by Amanda Arista
Violet Jordan thought the fairy tales her mother wove were just a way to get Violet to sleep, not a way to prepare her for the apocalypse she is the key to preventing. When she becomes a midnight snack for werepanther Spencer Haverty, his infectious bite invokes the first element of her destiny. When Violet’s budding instincts allow her to save a boy’s life, she realizes this new gig may come with perks: a slimmer figure, the attention of a handsome Guardian, and insights into her future embedded in her mother’s stories. But as push comes to claws, can Violet make the fatal strike against the men threatening her new family, her new home and her first boyfriend in ages?

LURE OF THE WICKED by Karina Cooper
Naomi West was plucked from one prison and placed undercover in another: the gilded cage that is Timeless, New Seattle's premier spa and resort, where owner Phinneas Clarke—the most seductive man Naomi has ever met—may be hiding a killer. She's an agent of the Holy Order, trained to hunt the guilty and render justice. But while she's tracking down a rogue agent on a killing spree, Phin is determined to uncover her most damning—and dangerous—secrets. Whatever the cost.

NIGHTSPELL by Leah Cypess
DESCRIPTION: In this haunted kingdom, ghosts linger—not just in the deepest forests or the darkest caverns, but alongside the living, as part of a twisted palace court that revels all night and sleeps through the daylight hours.

Darri's sister was trapped in this place of fear and shadows as a child. And now Darri has a chance to save her sister . . . if she agrees to a betrothal with the prince of the dead. But nothing is simple in this eerie kingdom—not her sister, who has changed beyond recognition; not her plan, which will be thrown off track almost at once; and not the undead prince, who seems more alive than anyone
else.

In a court seething with the desire for vengeance, Darri holds the key to the balance between life and death. Can her warrior heart withstand the most wrenching choice of all?

FEAST: HARVEST OF DREAMS by Merrie Destefano
Halloween is a bad time to return to the woods . . .

Madeline MacFaddin ("Mad Mac" to fans of her bestselling magical stories) spent blissful childhood summers in Ticonderoga Falls. And this is where she wants to be now that her adult life is falling apart. The dense surrounding forest holds many memories, some joyous, some tantalizingly only half-remembered. And she's always believed there was something living in these wooded hills.

But Maddie doesn't remember the dark parts—and knows nothing of the mountain legend that holds the area's terrified residents captive. She has no recollection of Ash, the strange and magnificent creature who once saved her life as a child, even though it is the destiny of his kind to prey upon humanity. And soon it will be the harvest . . . the time to feast.

Once again Maddie's dreams—and her soul—are in grave danger. But magic runs deep during harvest. Even a spinner of enchanted tales has wondrous powers of her own . . .

BURN THE NIGHT by Jocelynn Drake
DESCRIPTION: The Great Awakening approaches . . .
After eons in exile, the naturi have broken their chains and now roam the Earth bent on revenge. It is the sworn duty of Mira, the Fire Starter, to protect the nightwalker race—though even she may be powerless to withstand the horrific onslaught. As Mira and her brave lover, the vampire slayer Danaus, stand ready to do battle, thousands of winged shapeshifters darken the skies. The war of ultimate extermination has begun, and the battleground is Mira's home turf.

The humans don't yet recognize the doom descending upon them. And the nightwalkers will surely perish unless they unite with outcast naturi who claim to want peace. But these unexpected "allies" are the same demons who have long worked for Mira's destruction—and in these darkest of days the lines between friend and foe will blur treacherously before the bloody end of all things.

ROGUE GADDA by Nicole Murphy
Hampton Rourke has always lived under his father's shadow, and he's not convinced he's the right man to be leading the search for Asarlai and the Forbidden Texts. When the clues lead to Boston and he stumbles upon one of the fabled lost families, Hampton faces challenges that will test his faith in himself. Charlotte Haraldson has been taught to hate the bardria, so it stinks that the man of her dreams isn't just from Sclossin but is the most powerful of them all. Then she learns that everything she's been taught is lies and she has to find new meaning for her and the gadda. With Asarlai setting loose one of the most dangerous gadda who had ever lived and then gaining a powerful ally, the pressure builds to stop her and retrieve the texts before she can finalize her terrible plan and change the world forever.

Ok, those prizes are absolutely droolworthy!! Thanks so much for the chance and *keeps fingers crossed* if this giveaway is international, please count me in :-) !

As to the question: Before I started book blogging, thus getting lots of inspirations from other book blogs, I would go book hunting in bookstores, grabing anything that had a nice cover ;-) and an even nicer blurb. These days I resort to inform myself mostly online before buying books.

I normally pick up new books to read by reading excerpts at the end of books I've read, blogging, talking with friends, or if I can't find what I'm looking for, then Barnes & Noble.com or Amazon.com. I like checking reviews to see what others thought about a book I thought about reading.

Then I found Twitter, which allowed me to stalk, I mean follow my favorite authors. By following these authors, I found other authors and discovered the world of blogging.

I hear about books largely online. While there's some bumbling around bookstores and seeing what I might like, I've often found things to my taste through the "You Might Like This..." function of Amazon and more recently Goodreads. I've also only recently been getting into the blog scene, so I'm now finding information through book blogs too.

I have several "auto buy" authors, so anything they release is preordered. Sometimes I find new (to me) authors by recs from friends or when I'm browsing a bookstore and pick up a book (usually the cover grabs my attention) and the blurb sounds interesting. Lots of ways to find really awesome books ;).

Well I have the few auto but authors but otherwise I browse the new books aisle when I am a bn. I also check blogs constantly to see what everyone is reading or twitter to see what people think on some reads. I have to saw that there are only a few impulse book buys and many times that I will check around online for snippets and reviews.

I usually hear about the books I want to read from blogs and author's newsletters. I read blog reviews and guest posts from authors and then I check them out on Amazon.com or Barnes & Noble.com and add them to my wishlist. I also check books out on Goodreads and see what kind of reviews are listed there. Occasionally I'll see a book I know is on my wishlist discounted at Target and I'll pick it up there, but otherwise, I buy online - real books though, not e-books. I usually recommend books I've enjoyed to my sister, and then she grabs them up too.

Both these prize packs are awesome, I'd love to win one.

Great prize package!

I used to browse in bookstores (and read RT magazine), but then I discovered that, online, I could find people with shared tastes.

I often find recommendations from people I've come to know on Twitter. Will check out roundups and reviews of new books on a few blogs (often linked on Twitter). Sometimes, I'll discover a new author by following a conversation on Twitter, if I like what she says and think what she's writing sounds interesting.

I shared the link on Twitter and Facebook, so that's a total of +3 points.

P.S. Had trouble leaving a comment. Something weird with the link for me.

What a great giveaway. Thanks for the opportunity. Put them on a list of ones to read in case I don't win and then I can keep an eye open for them.

I have, for years, read anything and everything, so it is nice to find people that say "Have you read?" and to share book-knowledge with others. When I was able to work, I used to take a book on a Sunday afternoon as it was very quiet and a lot of customers would say "What are you reading"? And then either ask for advice or volunteer authors I might like. Although now the net is more accessible, was on dial-up before, I spent a lot of time talking about books as well. But if an author has wrote a book I've enjoyed I will see if any authors have wrote on the cover about that particular author.

Have tweeted and retweeted, my name on Twitter is IANSMIC (to do with my fav rockstar) and my email address:

What an amazing giveaway! I would love to win Package #2.

Ever since discovering Goodreads, that is how I have been getting my read suggestions. Before that though, it was through the library. I would just walk in and discover books without prior knowledge as to how good or popular it is. That is still how I find "hidden gem" books, they are not mainstream or current but are fantastic books.

I get info about books to feed my addiction primarily at my calendar here: http://www.cherrymischievous.com/2009/06/calendar.html

I think it draws feed(s) from GoodReads. I also update it manually when I come across books I like. Another source of info for me is the blogosphere when I trawl. And of course the internet through links I come across. I also get to know about new books when I browse bookshops. But more often, I knew about them (those I like anyway) before I see them on the shelves.

If there is anything left of my monthly budget at that point, then I check out what Amazon suggests for me. If nothing else, it is funny some of the things it suggests.

Unfortunately for me, none of my friends are big readers. (Not that I haven't all but held them at gun point trying to get them to read my favorite books so I'd have someone to discuss them with.) So that leaves me with hitting up blog sites like this or looking up books related to the ones I've read and liked. Sometimes I'll even find new books the old fashioned way (gasp) by looking around the library for something interesting.

The way I usually hear about books I want to read is via book blogs such as this blog, or by following favourite authors on Twitter or liking/friending them on Facebook. I do browse shelves in bookshops and as I work in a library, I like browsing the new book shelves every now and then, but as I'm always online keeping up to date with blogs ensures I find out news about new books sooner rather than later.
Following blogs has also meant I've met quite a few authors in the past twelve months to get books signed which is awesome!

I hear of books from all over the place, online through blogs and goodreads mostly and I'm in publishing so I hear of things sometimes way in advance. Of course I'm also a cover whore so I pick up a lot books with covers that I like in bookstores.

I blog a lot and surf the blogs as well, so I can heard about new books that way. But if I'm already reading the author's work, I know when new releases from them come out.

I find the books I read in a lot of different ways. I do read about a lot of them online. But I also go to the bookstore and just start picking things up to read the cover. BUt some of the best books I've found are recommendations from a few choice reading friends. They are usually books I wouldn't think to pick up, and I always end up loving them!

Just for the record, as previously stated, I primarily discover new books at the bookstore, and sometimes by watching talk shows on tv, where an author is advertising his or her work. I'm repeating this in order to include my email address in my comment. I've also tweeted and blogged about this, and mentioned it on Facebook. Check out my blog at: www.charles-herrion.blogspot.com . Thanks again for the contest.

I get book ideas in a variety of ways. Amazon's recommended list, roommate's suggestions, browsing in a bookstore and seeing what catches my eye.

The books in the contest look like they will be worth wild to read. I have a Nook so I find most my reads at BarnesandNoble.com. Also, I read real books too and I found those online at amazon.com. I also found books at Barnes and Noble the store, Wal-mart, Target, and any Book stores I find by accident. Plus, My friends tell me about books they read. One of my friends as book club on facebook.com, where we comment on the books we read. Finally, I get ideas from books to found other books. I read the books with short stories by different authors. If I like their story, I look for another they wrote. Or previews at end of the books I read at the time.

i'm an internet-junkie, so i find most of my books through online friend rec's, other author's indorsements (on their sites or a FB/Twitter mention).Sometimes, though, i like to just cruise through the shelves at the local bookstores/libraries to see what sparks my interest. you never know where you'll find you next favorite book/series! *G*

I forgot to include my email address, so can you ignore the initial post and use this one? Yup...I rock...LOL

Mostly, it's online, either through Twitter, Goodreads, or the selection of books we receive at Bitten. I go to the bookstore about once a week, so if I've missed anything, I normally find it then, lol. : )

Omg I want want want want want!!!! (Obviously, my desire to win those amazing has made me incapable of forming proper sentences *grin*)

Anyway, I find new books through friends, GoodReads, randomly walking about a bookstore or library, seeing someone else reading that book and of course, from blogs. I'm really open to what I read (though I'm usually pretty shallow and just look at the cover of the book before I decide to read it).

I usually find books a number of ways. When they are mentioned on blogs, book websites I frequent and or are in book newsletters I get. I also check the book recommendations in the back of my favorite author's books. And I also am attracted to a book's cover sometimes as I wander the book isle of any book store I am in. Then are also the free bookmarks given away that I might aquire and read more about the book on the bookmark. I love finding new authors. Thanks for this awesome giveaway!

I have a couple of pages to search for new books and authors and in the same page some authors recommended others books ans series. Or going to a library and looking at the covers or reviews of the books.
Some recommended for my sister or friends.
And if I don't found them in a library I read them online.
