Giveaway and thanks

***WINNERS! Congrats to Cara Cummings, Shadow Girl, and LinGeorge. Since all of you left your email addresses in your comments, I will email you to get your shipping info.

Thanks, everyone, for commenting! Lots of great paranormal creatures in fiction, aren't there? :).

Today is my blog day, and let me start off by apologizing, because you won’t find eloquent content here. See, I got back from tour Saturday night* and had the inbox from hell waiting for me. Nine days of travel (trains take longer than flights getting me to and fro) also meant lots of laundry that needed immediate attention, plus the usual business issues that I put off while I was out of town. On top of all that was my I’m-excited-but-I-think-I’m-gonna-puke nerves while I waited to see how readers received my latest novel, This Side of the Grave. I’ll let you in on a secret that I hope my editor doesn’t see, heh: I can never write during the two weeks leading up to that night writers often refer to as Doom Wednesday, which is when authors get their first week sales numbers. All my tried and true tricks to break writer’s block fail me during that window. Music playlists, mental pep talks, friend pep talks, mental slapping, friends slapping me (just kidding) and even looming deadlines can’t make a dent in my inability to produce words. You’d think that seven books in, I’d be less manic about a new release, but it appears not. If anything, I’m probably more batty than I was with my first book, which begs the age-old question: does publishing make people crazy, or do only crazy people attempt a career in publishing? *wink*

On Wednesday, however, I received the amazing news that readers had not lost their appetite for more Cat and Bones stories, because This Side of the Grave hit # 2 on the New York Times and # 16 on the USA Today bestseller lists. Cue me wanting to hug and kiss everyone who went out and got the book! What made that news even better was hearing that Melissa Marr’s Darkest Mercy hit # 7 on the New York Times Children’s Series list, Pamela Palmer’s Hunger Untamed hit #21 on the adult NYT, and Lynsay Sands The Heiress hit # 19 on the adult NYT. Go team Supernatural Underground! :).

So with that passing of Doom Wednesday, it was no surprise that yesterday, I was finally able to produce words again. Not a moment too soon, either, as I have an anthology story to finish. The next two weeks will see me putting in very long days, but I’ll be doing it with a smile thanks to you, readers.

And what better way to say thanks than to give away books, right? I might not have eloquence today, but I have three signed copies of This Side of the Grave to offer up. If you want to be entered in the drawing, just leave a comment telling me what your favorite paranormal creature is. Vampires, werewolves, faeries, ghosts, demons, shape shifters, dragons…which one rings your bell? Contest is open to international readers and ends tonight at 11:59pm EST. The three winners will be chosen by Randomizer and announced on this same blog post tomorrow at the top, so be sure to check back and see if you won.

Want to know more about the book before you decide to enter the contest? I have the summary, book trailer, and first 20% available to read here.

Good luck, and thanks again!

- Jeaniene Frost

Until I read your books I probably would have said ghosts. But, since becoming totally hooked on your books I am a vampire girls all the way. I have also gotten my niece and a friend of mine totally hooked on your books with a promise of a vampire so hot it would make other vampires disappear in the rear view mirror. I am happy to say they are both totally hooked. My niece has bought every single one of your books and read them in less than three weeks. Thank you for your wonderful books and please keep them coming!!

mmm that is a toss up. I love my dark and broody vamps, but I have to say that Shifter's do it more for me in a read. Don't silver bullet me yet guys, I love my Bones, and my Northman too. I just think that the critters call it higher for me ;)

I would have to say Vamp and Werewolf!!!! I used to never read books like this until a friend of mine got me started and WOW look out this is all I read now!!! I love all of the anticipation, the romance, the thrill of the fight!!! Well I LOVE it all!!!!! Your books are the greatest!!!

I'm a fan of the fae, but your ghouls are fascinating, too.

INCiDeNT (Kayleigh) said...

Demons vs. Changelings, for the moment - depends in what context and what worlds they belong to.

Angkrosnick said...

Gee, this is hard!!
OK, I will pick vampires, then ghost, then wolves.

Laura Morales said...

bloodsuckers all the way!!

Kirsten said...

I started as this massive Vampire fan, then I was into Werewolves. I read a few Faeries, not really my thing. Had a thril or two with a Ghost and now.... Now I'm into Dragons! Still LOVE the odd Vampire (or two or three) but yeah Dragons are today's thing with me.

Letitia said...

While I looove vampires and werewolves, there are more books that focus on them. I think the fae are underutilized in the adult genre. So, I would say that right now I most look forward to books where the male or female lead is a fae. And I often times root for the fae/elf (ala Trent in Kim Harrison's Hollows series). That said, I still REALLY love the vamps and weres. :D

And, just want to say, thanks for much for a new Cat & Bones story! I enjoyed Spade and Mencheres' but I was missing C&B greatly!!!

Admin said...

Jeaniene,

Can't speak for others - but I count down the days till a new release from you - Cat & Bones, Spade, Mencheres, Vlad or some new folks we haven't met yet.

Don't put my name in for the contest, as my friend in Maryland picked me up a signed copy at the signing there.

If asked this when first introduced to paranormal fiction I'd have said vampires, as I've always been interested in vampire lore. I suppose they'll always have a special place in my heart as my first paranormal love. However, over the years my love of paranormal creatures has grown and expanded with all the great writers and their amazing characters in this genre, to the point where now I'd be hard pressed to pick one for a favorite. Rather, as long as the character is well written I'll love them, no matter what paranormal species they are. :)

That's hard to say. I read all books paranormal. I think I would have to say werewolves.

I've read some really good vampire books and I like the ones that take a different twist on the vampirism. but the wolves just do something for me.

Vampires are my favorite fangs down! From the moment I cracked open Interview With the Vampire by Anne Rice, I've been hooked on the vamps! Almost every author has a different take on vampire myths and legends and it's fun to read the different twists they add to the mix!

Up until a couple of years ago, I thought vampires were stupid. Now, I'm not ashamed to admit, I'm quite partial to them thanks to a few certain bloodsucking fiends who make it impossible to not become obsessed!

I find myself a fan of ghosts. I guess because I'm slightly a history buff and ghosts tend to get connected to that in some way!

Time was,I disliked anything paranormal until my daughter pestered me into reading just one book. I was hooked, and sadly, normal creatures and their stories are boring now,ha-ha!My favorite creatures are vampires. I love a book that has conflict between a heroine and a sexy, powerful vamp, and have lost a lot of sleep reading 'just one more page'. Cat and Bones fit this description to a T. They've sure come a long way from the time he held her prisoner in his cave!

Ooof- you're making us choose? Couldn't I just write a dissertation on the merits of all of them? I think I'll go with faeries- you never really know what you're going to get with them, and lots of the fae characters seem to be based off of different myths. My inner dork digs mythology.

My favourite paranormal creatures are definitely vampires! I love their sexyness and their character. they seem to be so hard, but in real, they are so loveable persons which were goin to death to protect their love. <3

While I like Shifters, Demons, Ghosts etc, I LOVE vampires. I'll occasionally read a shifter book or a demon book for a change of pace, but is isn't long before I go back to my first love, vamps!

Vampires just "do it" for me! I think it's their dangerous, seductive, intriguing, sexual, mysterious and eternal manner that entices me and gets me coming back for more. I enjoy reading many genres, but it's the Vampire stories that have me stop everything in my world to delve into theirs!

Having grown up on Diana Wynne Jones' Chrestomanci series, I'd want to say wizards... but I think I'd have to say the Sidhe (all those Thomas the Rhymer retellings - whether they be verse or fiction - have got me completely hooked). It always feels like they're darker, and the happily ever after is never what it seems, because fae magic works in strange ways..

I think ghosts. I was never a huge ghost fan until I started reading Cat and Bones, but I absolutely love the way your portray Fabian. It's kind of exciting to think that someone you love might stick around and still be able to interact with you!
